2017 Chevrolet Camaro: All Trim Levels Detailed
The Chevrolet Camaro made its debut in 1967, and the original sport coupe and the convertible were both lean, aggressive cars that were in line with the times. When equipped with the classic 327 small-block dual-carb V8, they were fast off the line and their 275 horses made them popular muscle cars with a lot of style.
The original line featured three trim levels, including the RS, which was mainly an appearance package featuring hidden headlights, back-up lights under the bumper, bright exterior trim and an RS badge. The SS was about performance and included a 350 or 396 V8 with chassis upgrades for better handling, and the Z28 was designed for competition in the SCCA Trans-Am series. Chevrolet offered so many packages to capture every driver from someone seeking a plain V6 to a flashy high-performance V8.
Flash forward to 2017 and the sixth-generation Camaro has undergone a complete makeover. Chevrolet knows that its customers expect classic looks, high-performance, comfort and safety from its premier muscle car, and the 2017 is poised to deliver. This year's Camaro is offered in five trim levels: 1LS, 1LT, 2LT, 1SS and 2SS – all in both coupe and convertible models. Built on GM's Alpha platform that's shared with the Cadillac ATS and CTS, it's a stiff, lighter foundation for a performance vehicle and shed 200 pounds for 2017, giving it a big performance boost.
Performance under the Hood
This year's Camaro features three engines that make it the most fuel-efficient Camaro to date. The base model 2L, 4-cylinder turbo puts out 275 horses with 295 pound-feet of torque, taking it from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 5.4 seconds while still delivering 30 miles per gallon on the highway.
The 3.6L direct-injected V6 features cylinder deactivation and variable valve timing (a first for a V6), kicking it up to 335 horsepower and providing 284 pound-feet of torque, with 27 mpg on the highway and a zero-to-60 time of just over five seconds. This is a serious V6 and the most powerful naturally aspirated in its class.
The top-of-the-line 6.2L direct-injected V8 brings the horsepower up to an impressive 455 with 455 pound-feet of torque driving the Camaro SS from zero to 60 in just four seconds. It also features cylinder deactivation and delivers an incredible 28 mpg on the highway.
The Camaro features a six-speed manual transmission across all models while an optional eight-speed automatic with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters is available. The SS features rev matching during down shifting.
Suspension is tight with double-pivot control arms and struts in the front and a five-link set in the rear. The SS offers optional Chevy's adaptive Magnetic Ride Control damping system, providing aggressive cornering thanks to the fully adjustable control.
Trim levels are equal between the coupe and the convertible. The only real difference is the automatic top that can be controlled either by the key fob or from inside the vehicle with a button on the dash. The top can be safely and securely dropped at speeds up to 30 mph.
Five Trims, No Waiting!
With five available trim levels there's a Camaro available to fit any budget.
1LS
The entry-level 1LS is a solid starter Camaro that comes standard with the 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder engine and six-speed manual transmission that delivers an impressive 30 mpg on the highway. Braking is handled by a four-wheel power disc ABS system that gives plenty of stopping power. The 1LS features MacPherson strut suspension in the front and multi-link rear suspension, 18-inch aluminum wheels and dual-outlet stainless steel exhaust with bright tips. 
Inside the 1LS you'll find plenty of comfort with cloth sport bucket front seats, an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, six-way power passenger seat, a folding rear seat, leather-wrapped flat-bottom telescoping steering wheel, power programmable door locks with lockout protection, keyless entry and starting, leather-wrapped shift knob and Chevy's MyLink radio with a 7-inch diagonal color touchscreen, AM/FM radio Bluetooth streaming, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay all standard. OnStar 4G LTE and a built-in WiFi hotspot is available at an additional cost after a free trial, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio is standard on all models with a free 12-month trial subscription.
Chevrolet didn't forget safety. The 1LSÂ features daytime running lamps, StabiliTrak control, full airbags, OnStar navigation, a rear-view camera and Teen Driver mode that lets you customize the vehicle for younger drivers.
1LT, 2LT – Coupe and Convertible
The LT trim level adds some comfort and performance options that make it even more fun to drive. When outfitted with the 2.0L four-cylinder turbo and eight-speed automatic transmission, the 1LT delivers 31 mpg on the highway. 
The 1LT comes standard with automatic headlights and LED daytime running lamps, 18-inch alloy wheels and a limited slip differential in the standard manual transmission model. Like the LS, it offers an eight-way power driver's seat and six-way adjustable cloth passengers’ seats. Cruise control, tilt/telescopic leather-wrapped steering wheel and a rear vision camera are all standard. The Infotainment system includes a six-speaker stereo, bluetooth with 4G LTE WiFi and Chevy's MyLink.
The 1LT also introduces an adjustable Driving Mode standard that features three settings. Tour is perfect for long road trips and makes the handling and performance easy on the driver and passengers. Sport mode tightens the steering and handling for a more fun driving experience, and Snow/Ice gives you extra traction and security on icy, winter roads.

The 2LT trim level adds to the 1LT's features with heated and ventilated leather front seats, dual zone automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and an upgraded infotainment system with an 8-inch color touchscreen and a premium Bose audio system.
1SS, 2SS -Â Coupe and Convertible
The 2017 Chevy Camaro SS trim levels expand on the LT trim models. The Camaro SS trim features the high-performance 6.2L direct injection V8 that pumps out a powerful 455 horsepower and 455 pound-foot of torque to deliver a respectable 25 mpg on the highway. The 1SS comes standard with the six-speed manual transmission and 20-inch aluminum alloy wheels with run-flat tires. 
The 1SS starts with the 1LT trim and adds Xenon headlights and LED taillights, quad exhaust and a rear spoiler. Behind the scenes, the 1SS boasts a limited slip differential, upgraded suspension and four-piston Brembo front and rear brakes.
The Drive Mode Selector adds a Track mode that offers extra aggressive performance. The infotainment system features the 8-inch color touchscreen with a reconfigurable display standard.

The 2SS is built on the 2LT trim and adds the Convenience and Lighting packages, which include heated auto dimming outside mirrors, a heated leather-wrapped steering wheel, inductive mobile device recharging, lighted sill plates, a heads-up display and improved gauges. Additional active safety features like rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning are all standard on the 2SS.
