Electric Chevy Truck

Even though the 2023 Chevy Silverado EV will share an electric powertrain with the likes of the GMC Hummer EV truck and SUV models, it’s expected to be a more classic approach to the electric pickup truck.

It’s expected that Chevy will offer the electric Silverado in both a more work-oriented version and much more luxurious retail versions—the base models are expected to boast a large battery pack which will provide up to roughly 400 miles per charge, and the higher-tiered models are expected to include the option for additional battery packs and loads of other bells and whistles.

The Electric Silverado EV’s impending arrival in 2023 won't affect the gasoline-powered Silverados according to the manufacturer, at least not for the time being. Chevy is still planning an update for the current classic internal-combustion Silverado lineup, likely for the 2022 model year.

Depending on the trim option selected, just like the Hummer EV Truck and SUV models, the 2023 Silverado EV should also come available with up to three electric motors depending on trim, with all-wheel drive likely being made available as standard.

The new 2023 Chevy EV will feature the company's patented Ultium battery packs. Beyond what we’ve previously mentioned, Chevrolet hasn't released full specs and information at this time but has said it will build the 2023 EV in Michigan at the same production plant that will be building the Hummer EVs.

When it goes on sale, the Silverado EV will face a slice of competition from Ford’s F-150 Electric model, as well as certain upstart offerings such as the Rivian R1T and the Tesla Cybertruck.

Chevy Electric Truck Cost & Trims

Chevrolet hasn't released pricing breakdowns on trim levels for the Silverado EV just yet, but it has been said that they will be offering a stripped-down version for fleet buyers, which will most likely come at a competitively low starting price. The gasoline-powered Silverado follows a similar formula with its low-cost Work Truck and mid-range LT trims, so it’s anticipated that the EV will follow suit in that regard.

It’s also expected that Chevy will offer higher-priced luxury consumer models such as the LTZ and High Country, which will offer more luxurious cabin comforts and possibly some electronic features borrowed from the Hummer EV—all of which will inevitably come at a much higher asking price than base models.

Chevy Electric Truck Engine Options and Features

Given the news that the 2023 Silverado EV will share a base and assembly line with the Hummer EV, it's highly likely that the two will also share a common powertrain. That could mean anywhere between one and three electric motors, depending on trim level, with combined horsepower ratings as high as a thousand horsepower.

All-wheel drive (AWD) will most likely be a standard option, but Chevrolet hasn't released full specs yet. Chevy has advertised a new Available Four-Wheel Steer will be included as a chassis feature, which allows the vehicle to steer all four wheels, enabling increased agility and tighter turning radius at low speeds, improved handling, and stability at higher speeds, as well as great trailering dynamics. So you can drive circles around obstacles.
