2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV Will Produce 754 HP

It’s not in the Silverado’s nature to deliver anything but the best. The engineers at Chevrolet are always working hard to deliver the highest level of performance available. That’s partly why the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV’s output has been updated to 754 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque.

Chevy Will Match the GMC Sierra EV Denali HP and Torque Numbers

When Chevy first revealed the new Silverado EV back in January of 2022, it was announced with 664 hp and 785 lb-ft of torque for the RST trim. Then GMC announced that the Sierra EV, built on a similar platform, would offer 754 hp and 785 lb.-ft. of torque. While these two vehicles are different stylistically, they offer many of the same performance features.

It’s unclear exactly what happened between the original announcement and today, but the engineers at GM must have made improvements when collaborating to make these Chevy and GMC vehicles. So, why did the Chevy Silverado EV torque and horsepower ratings change? Is there something unusual going on with the Silverado EV truck?

The answer is quite simple. Sean Szymkowski, a spokesperson for Chevrolet trucks, explained it like this: “As we prepare for production of the Silverado EV, our engineering team has further refined the estimated performance specs for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST First Edition. GM now estimates horsepower to be up to 754 and torque up to an estimated 785 lb-ft when Wide Open Watts mode is engaged.”

In other words, there’s not necessarily anything unusual going on with the power output for this vehicle. The truth is that the team at Chevrolet made their best estimate for the torque and horsepower for a 2024 vehicle back in January of 2022, long before the vehicle even hit production. In the following months, with additional work and research, the team was able to update their estimate.

It’s unclear exactly when the team at Chevrolet would have realized that the truck was even more powerful than they originally imagined. It’s possible that they were sitting on this information for a while to ensure the accuracy of their latest projections. It’s also possible that they simply waited until the announcement of the 2024 Sierra EV Denali to share the update. After all, the Denali has the same engines and outputs, which makes the connection relevant.

What Is Chevy’s “Wide Open Watts” Mode?

It’s worth mentioning that not every Silverado EV truck will have such a high power output. The Chevrolet WT will be the first model to market and will still deliver an impressive 510 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque. It just isn’t quite as powerful as the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST. That’s because, like the GMC Sierra EV Denali, the Silverado EV RST comes with Wide Open Watts mode.

When this mode is engaged, the power output jumps so high. While you might be thinking about everything you can tow and haul with that power, don’t forget to imagine how incredible the driving experience will be in general. WOW mode is expected to take this car from zero to 60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds. That’s not something you see every day, especially not from a pickup truck.

The mode is also known as WOW mode for short or Max Power mode. While similar modes in other EVs are only available for short bursts, Wide Open Watts mode is intended to be used for longer periods of time. We’re still waiting to learn about the full details of WOW mode for the Silverado EV truck, which makes it exciting as this new Silverado EV gets closer to production.

About the First-Ever Silverado RST EV

There may be additional updates and minor changes between now and the time the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV hits dealership lots. That said, we already have more than enough to be excited about. The 2024 Silverado EV RST will change how people think about pickup trucks for good.

It’s a smart, fast, aerodynamic vehicle. At the same time, it will offer many characteristics that have made the Silverado name legendary in the American truck industry. After all, it’s going to have that 785 lb-ft of torque and 754 hp with Wide Open Watts. This time, though, the vehicle is all-electric. The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV RST is expected to have up to 400 miles of range on a full charge.

Ultimate EV Performance: The Ultium Platform

It’s the Ultium Platform that makes all of this possible. This is GM’s solution for the future of electric propulsion. This is how drivers can drive on zero emissions without sacrificing torque or other capabilities.

The truck also relies on the GM software platform Ultifi. The software is designed to provide on-demand access to upgrades, apps, and personalization. The new Silverado EV will receive regular software updates to ensure the experience stays modern and never gets stale.

Finally, keep an eye out for Ultium Home. This solution allows power to move back and forth between the Silverado EV and your home. In a pinch, your Silverado will be able to keep lights on at your home for up to 21 days. Of course, this assumes bidirectional charging capabilities, a properly equipped home, and the required grid interconnection. This might also be a way to save on electric bills and sell extra power back to participating utility companies.

Still a Silverado

Don’t let all of the modern EV features fool you. This truck is still more than worthy of the Silverado name because it still delivers the level of performance you’d expect. The E-4WD system can deliver torque to all four wheels almost instantly. Combine this with other features like the available Four-Corner Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, and you’re dealing with the next stage of evolution for a pickup truck that will already go down in history.
