What’s New With the 2020 Chevy Traverse?

Chevrolet Traverse High Country, Modern architecture, house, talent, family

The 2020 Traverse is part of the second generation of this midsize SUV with three rows. With all the flexibility people love about crossovers, it’s no wonder the newest Traverse is in such high demand. 2020 is the third model year of this generation, so Chevy’s engineers have had time to refine this vehicle even more. If you’ve been impressed by the Traverse in the past, now is a great time to experience the latest and greatest.

New 2020 Traverse Exterior

The Chevy Traverse has a few different colors for 2020 than it did in 2019. It will no longer be available in Havana Brown Metallic, Pepperdust Metallic, or Black Currant Metallic. Those three colors are replaced with three new ones: Black Cherry Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, and Stone Gray Metallic. The attractive body of the 2020 Traverse looks great in all of the available colors, and drivers can also choose an available brand new five-digit keypad.

The Active Aero Vents will go away for 2020, as will two of the wheel options. The 20” Argent Metallic aluminum wheels are no longer available, and neither are the 20” aluminum wheels with pockets of Technical Gray. To replace those options, Chevy is offering two new kinds of wheels for the 2020 Traverse, each of which is essentially an updated version of the two wheel choices that have been replaced.

Chevy Traverse 4WD

When you choose all-wheel drive, you can take your Chevy Traverse off road with confidence. The rugged capabilities pair well with a V6 engine that now comes standard for every 2020 Traverse. It’s also a good way to make use of all the space for cargo and passengers, especially if you’re interested in exploring the great outdoors. Even when you need to drive the Chevy Traverse in snow or other suboptimal conditions, you’ll be treated to a smooth ride.

2020 Chevy Traverse Interior

The interior of the 2020 Traverse looks just about identical to the 2019 Traverse, but the technology is even smarter. The most recent model uses Chevrolet Infotainment System 3, and drivers will have their choice when it comes to how they experience that. The infotainment system is available with either a seven- or eight-inch touch screen. The technology will also feature connected Navigation at higher trim levels.

Stay connected when you’re on the go with an available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot built right into the vehicle. The infotainment system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so you’ll be able to integrate no matter which type of smartphone you prefer. Keep your passengers happy, too, with USB ports in every row– no more dead phones on road trips. When you use the myChevrolet app, you’ll be more connected than ever.

To go with the better infotainment system and displays, Chevy upgraded their cameras. Active safety features like Surround Vision and the rear vision camera are now in HD with better resolution. Trailering gets easier, too, thanks to the addition of smart features like these:

  • Trailing Assist Guidelines
  • Hitch Guidance
  • Hitch View

One of the things people love about the Traverse is that it’s big and comfortable. That isn’t changing this year, as the mid-size SUV can seat up to eight people comfortably and offers plenty of legroom in every row.

Every passenger will be made right at home by a well-appointed interior that includes nice touches like leather seating with premium stitching. It’s easy to get into the third row thanks to second-row seats with Smart Slide.

You and your passengers will continue to experience high-quality comfort long after you’re buckled in, too. The cabin uses noise-canceling technology to ensure quiet rides even at highway speeds.

The front seats have available heating and ventilation, and everyone can enjoy an optional two-panel sunroof. There’s no need for you and your passengers to travel light, and flexible seating configurations make it easy to store all of your gear.

Fold down seats to make the most of best-in-class maximum cargo space of 98.2 cubic feet. Hidden storage allows you to keep valuables concealed, and a hands-free liftgate makes loading and unloading a breeze. This combination of thoughtful solutions allows for plenty of room for most trips, and it’s possible to tow plenty more as needed. The maximum towing capacity of the 2020 Traverse is 5,000 pounds. Simply put, this SUV will allow you to bring almost anyone and anything you need for your journey.

2020 Traverse Safety

The Traverse certainly has plenty of brains to go with all of its brawn, and that theme of giving drivers the best of both worlds applies to safety features as well. Even beyond the reliable engineering that goes into every Chevrolet product, this 2020 mid-size SUV has some of the best active safety features available. Drivers can rest a little bit easier thanks to features like these that help them stay more aware on the road:

Teen Driver Mode

When engaged, this mode will prevent certain safety features from being deactivated, limit some systems, and report driving behavior. Now you can easily keep everyone accountable if you have multiple drivers in the family.

Standard Rear Vision Camera

Every 2020 Traverse gives the driver a view of what’s behind them when they’re backing up. Dynamic guidelines on the image even help show the vehicle path to make maneuvering easier.

Available Lane Change Alert With Side Blind Zone Alert – Signals on the external side mirrors will provide additional feedback to the driver to let them know that a lane change might result in a collision.

Available Rear Park Assist

When the driver is backing up at low speeds, the rear parking assistance feature can give updating alerts to let the driver know how far they are from the object or objects detected behind the vehicle.

Available Automatic Emergency Braking

If the vehicle senses a potential collision to the front, it can apply the brakes automatically to help the driver slow down more quickly. This system can function at speeds of less than 20 miles per hour.

Available Lane Keep Assist With Lane Departure Warning

If the driver crosses over a marked lane, the Lane Departure Warning can provide an alert. The system can also prompt gentle turns of the steering wheel when the vehicle begins to drift without any turn signal or steering activity detected.

Available Rear Cross-Traffic Alert

The system can issue beeps or even directional pulses if it’s equipped with the Safety Alert Seat. The Rear Vision Camera screen will also display warning triangles with arrows to indicate the direction of whatever causes the alert. This is immensely helpful when the driver is backing out with limited visibility.

Available Forward Collision Alert

If a front-end collision appears to be imminent, or if you’re following too closely behind another vehicle, you will receive an alert.

Available Front Pedestrian Braking

This feature can be engaged at speeds below 50 miles per hour. The driver will be alerted when a potential collision with a pedestrian ahead is detected, and the system can automatically apply or enhance hard braking with the emergency brake.

Available Rear Camera Mirror

As an option, this mirror allows the driver to use either a traditional rearview mirror or a rearview camera mirror display with a wide viewing angle. This feature is helpful when driving, changing lanes, and monitoring traffic conditions surrounding the vehicle.

Available HD Surround Vision

This feature allows the driver to select multiple views to help people stay more aware of their surroundings when they’re in the new 2020 Traverse. This is helpful for avoiding objects at low speeds, such as when parking. Drivers can get a bird’s-eye view of what’s around their vehicle just by looking at the infotainment display screen.

Five Star NHTSA Rating

Based on independent analysis from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the 2020 Traverse earned a perfect rating overall. It fared well in a variety of crash tests and rollover tests.

2020 Chevrolet Traverse Performance

A 3.6L V6 engine gives the 2020 Traverse a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, and you can still count on a smooth ride. A 9-speed automatic transmission is responsible for smooth shifting, maximum comfort, and fuel economy that gets even better with front-wheel drive. Depending on your needs, you can adjust the driving mode accordingly.

When you need a little bit of extra traction, use the Traction Mode Select feature to adjust the performance to all-wheel drive quickly. Feeling a little bit adventurous?

No problem, the Off-Road traction mode provides additional torque to the rear wheels as you conquer the terrain. In towing and hauling mode, the driver will get additional help keeping their trailer or other heavy load steady.

2020 Traverse Trim Levels and Special Editions

The 2020 Traverse comes in as many trim levels as you could hope for when you’re customizing a mid-size SUV. From the most affordable to the most luxurious, drivers can choose from a wide range of options:

  • L – Affordable, yet well-appointed. It hardly seems fair to call this “entry-level.”
  • LS – Add stylish touches like deep-tinted rear windows, HID headlamps, and LED daytime running lamps.
  • LT Cloth – Roof rails, fog lamps, and additional seating options come into play at this level.
  • LT Leather – In addition to some upgrades to look and feel, this trim level makes more safety features available.
  • RS – Black signature accents make the outside look impressive, while heated front seats make the inside feel especially cozy.
  • Premier – Heated seats make it to the second row, the steering wheel is heated, and wireless charging capabilities are provided for one device.
  • High Country – The top trim level of the 2020 Traverse offers beautiful 20” polished aluminum wheels and a powered third-row bench seat among other refined features.

If you really want to turn heads, consider the 2020 Traverse Redline Edition. Blacked-out exterior touches with pops of red badging make this SUV even more attractive. The Redline Edition of the 2020 Traverse is available at the Premier trim level.
