When it comes to age-old rivalries, few can compare Chevy versus Ford.

For decades, truck lovers have debated the merits of Chevy and Ford trucks alike – and we might be biased, but Chevrolet has a long-held legacy of coming out on top. And now, these two giants of the American auto industry are battling it out to be crowned king in the era of electric vehicles.

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV has made headlines as one of the most exciting announcements in the automotive world, promising to be the all-electric pickup truck that exceeds every expectation. As expected, Ford has also designed their own version of an electric truck in an attempt to keep pace with Chevy's innovation. The Ford F-150 Lightning is slated to be one of the closest competitors to the Silverado EV, but can it measure up to the long-awaited electric Chevy truck?

Let’s take a closer look at a comparison of the Chevy Silverado electric truck and the F-150 Lightning to see which one comes out on top.

Which is Better: the Chevy Silverado EV or the Ford F-150 Lightning?

There’s no question that the Ford and Chevy electric trucks have a fair amount in common, but when you break down their specs, the winner is pretty clear.

The Silverado EV is set up to deliver higher-quality performance and better range, and both its interior and exterior boast an impeccably stylish, modern design that elevates its overall appeal.

Here are some specs that highlight the wins (and losses) in the Silverado EV vs. F-150 Lightning face-off:

Horsepower & Torque

Winner: Chevrolet Silverado EV

Chevy’s Silverado EV utilizes the first-class Ultimum EV platform, which serves as a scalable EV platform that offers up an array of power outputs and drivetrain configurations. This puts the Chevy Silverado EV horsepower at 664 HP, with 780 pounds/foot of torque.

Ford’s F-150 Lightning produces just 563 HP and 775 pounds/foot of torque, and that’s only if you upgrade to the top-of-the-line Platinum edition.

Recharging & Range

Winner: Chevrolet Silverado EV

When fully charged, the all-electric Silverado EV range is reported to hit 400 miles. Additionally, it has rapid charging capabilities of up to 350-kWh, adding 100 miles to its range with every 10 minutes of charging.

In contrast, the F-150 Lightning range has a maximum of 300 miles. At home, expect to spend a minimum of eight hours to achieve a full charge on the 150-kWh charger.

Towing Capacity

Winner: Chevrolet Silverado EV

The standard Silverado EV tows up to 8,000 pounds, and a planned fleet model for the electric Silverado will have an astounding total capacity of 20,000 lbs.

In comparison, the F-150 Lightning's towing capacity maxes out at 10,000 lbs.

Exterior/Interior Design & Features

Winner: Chevrolet Silverado EV

Modern consumers expect stylish, comfortable exteriors and interiors in which no detail is forgotten. In general, the Silverado EV and F-150 Lightning both have well-crafted interiors – but the Silverado still claims victory once you put the features side by side.

Looking at each truck from the outside, picking a favorite might come down to personal preference. However, you can’t deny that the Silverado is far more likely to stand out, especially with its slim headlights and floating roof feature inspired by the Hummer EV.

With the Silverado EV interior, a 17-inch infotainment touchscreen takes center stage, perfectly complemented by the 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch heads-up multicolor display. The climate controls have been kept separate, making it easy to make quick adjustments without taking your eyes off the road. The wireless phone charger has also been incorporated with an eye for both form and function.

The Lightning has a vertical 15.5-inch touchscreen, where you’ll access all interior controls. For many drivers, touchscreen controls for climate control aren’t their preferred option, so that ends up detracting from overall functionality.

Both of the all-electric trucks have wireless connectivity features, including wireless Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and Android Auto.
