2020 Chevy Bolt Lt Vs. Bolt Ev Premier Trims

2020 Chevy LT vs Premier Bolt Trims

Ever since its debut in 2017, the Chevy Bolt EV has been known as one of the most reliable and affordable electric cars on the market, especially given its range. They only get better with time, too.

The 2020 Chevy Bolt will have an EPA-estimated range of 259 miles, which is the best ever for this vehicle. Now that drivers can go farther on a single charge, the new Chevrolet Bolt is more appealing than ever. The hardest part of choosing this electric car is deciding between the two excellent trim levels.

2020 Chevy Bolt Trim Levels

The new Chevy Bolt comes in two different trim levels: the Bolt EV LT and the Bolt EV Premier. Both of them come as a four-door wagon, which means there is plenty of space for both passengers and cargo. This subcompact hatchback seats five, and it has 56.6 cubic feet of storage space. Both trim levels are only available in all-wheel drive. Each trim level has the same electric motor, which sends its power to a single-speed transmission.

When it comes to charging, all you have to do is plug this vehicle in. Public charging stations will generally provide your car with about 100 miles of range in 30 minutes. For your home, you can get a 240-volt charging unit with 32 amps. It’s essential to get these charging units installed by a professional. Once you do that, though, you’ll be able to charge quickly and conveniently just by connecting your vehicle to the charging system.

Chevrolet Bolt Performance by Trim Level

The difference between these models is mostly in the areas of aesthetics and comfort, so the performance is similar across the two trim levels. Since they have the same electric engine and single-speed transmission, both get the same 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. One of the great things about electric vehicle performance is that the Bolt EV accelerates very quickly thanks to an almost instant generation of torque. They handle well in most conditions with their front-wheel drive, the electric engine runs quietly, and a single-speed transmission makes for a smooth ride with no shifting.

Chevy Bolt LT Vs. Premier Exterior

Some of the biggest differences between these two trim levels are visible when you look at the exterior. The Chevy Bolt LT comes in eight different colors, ranging from classic colors to bolder options. The Bolt Premier is available in nine exterior colors, including everything from the base trim level as well as Silver Ice Metallic. This additional color gives the car some extra shine, but the colors aren’t nearly the biggest difference between trim levels.

The Bolt LT and Premier both come with 17-inch wheels and all-season tires. The difference is that the tires on the Premier come in a stylish machined aluminum with painted pockets. The Bolt Premier has similar heated exterior mirrors to the LT, but adds turn signal indicators.

The Premier also adds some flash with chrome touches on the door handles, which are simply painted the same color as the vehicle body on the LT trim. The Premier also includes roof-mounted side-rails on the Premier, adding another storage option for those who travel with more cargo.

Both vehicles have available options like Intellibeam lights that turn on and off automatically, a tire-inflation kit, and floor mats for winter and summer. Unless you choose the Intellibeam lights, both trim levels have LED headlights and taillights. The Bolt EV LT and Premier both come with a front and rear tow hook.

2020 Chevy Bolt Mechanical Features

Both options come with essentially the same mechanical features:

  • 120-Volt Portable Charging Cord
  • Available Fast-Charging Technology
  • One-Pedal Driving With the Single-Speed Transmission
  • Power Steering
  • Independent Front Suspension
  • Semi-Independent Rear Suspension
  • Push to Start Technology
  • Anti-Lock Brakes
  • Battery Run-Down Protection to Automatically Shut Lights off After the Vehicle Shuts Down

Chevy Bolt Premier Vs. LT Interior

This is the area where there is the most difference. The Premier gets heated front seats, plus an automatic heating steering wheel that adjusts to the interior temperature. The instrument cluster of the Premier gets ambient lighting for the instrument cluster, and there are extra charging USB charging ports available.

This will keep your devices charged while you stream music to the Bose speakers. The Premier also gets extra storage and comfort features like seatback pockets, a false cargo floor, optional leather trim, and a rear center armrest.

The Bolt LT is still technologically savvy thanks to an infotainment system with 4G WiFi hot-spot capability. Regardless of the trim level, you can expect an eight-inch color screen in the infotainment system.

This gives the driver access to information about battery status and overall efficiency. Other standard features include six-direction manual adjustable driver and passenger seats, a 60/40 folding rear seat, and automatic climate control.

Chevrolet Bolt Safety Features by Trim Level

Both of these vehicles keep drivers safe and secure with features like the following:

  • OnStar Capabilities
  • Tire-Pressure Monitoring

  • Chevrolet Teen Drive System for Secondary Drivers

  • Optional Front-Collision Warnings

Which Chevy Bolt Trim Level to Choose

The 2020 Bolt EV LT has an MSRP starting at $36,620. The 2020 Bolt EV Premier is still reasonably priced for a top of the line electric vehicle with an MSRP starting at $41,020. The price gap between these two trim levels isn’t outrageous, but it’s definitely big enough to be worth thinking about. The good news is that you really can’t go wrong with either vehicle, so you’ll just have to decide if the premium features are worth the extra cost. It’s also worth thinking about options packages at this stage.

Chevy Bolt LT Convenience Package and Premier Infotainment Package

If you’re on the fence between the 2020 Chevy Bolt LT and Premier, you may find what you’re looking for in the LT Convenience Package. This provides some of the features that come standard with the Premier trim level while also saving some money. Those features include things like heated front seats, a rearview mirror that dims automatically, and a steering wheel that is wrapped in leather. You’ll have to upgrade to the 2020 Bolt Premier to get an optional Infotainment Package with seven Bose speakers and a subwoofer.
