What is the Difference Between the 2021 and 2022 Model Years?
Due to an international semiconductor scarcity, 2022 Silverado 1500 production has been delayed for months. To relieve the intense demand in the truck market, General Motors announced the 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited would serve as a 2022 model year continuation of the 2021's Silverado 1500 until the redesigned 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 begins production. Though there are some differences, it shares many of the trim levels, paint colors, interior color combinations, and features as the 2021 model year.
Engines and Drivetrain Changes
The naturally-aspirated 4.3L V6 and 5.3L V8 have been deleted, as has the 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2.7 L turbo I4 is now standard on Work Truck, Custom, and Custom Trail Boss. The 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 is now standard on RST Crew Cab and optional on Work Truck. The Duramax Turbo-Diesel I6 3.0L is available on LT Trail Boss.
Interior Changes
The HD radio option, which boosts and enhances the audio quality of local AM/FM radio stations and provides artist and song information, has been removed, with dealers offering $50 MSRP credit.
Deleted Package
The Silverado 1500 Limited deletes the Custom Max Trailering Package, which includes an increased Rear Gross Axle Weight Rating offers a collection of features to allow the Silverado to tow 12,500 lbs. The Package also had a 9.76" rear axle, heavier duty rear springs, revised shock tuning, and an enhanced cooling radiator.
Price Differences Between Model Years
It's worth noting that each of the MSRPs given includes a $1,695 Destination Freight Charge and excludes any potential customer credits for missing components.
Customers may be eligible for refunds if specific components are missing. For example, GM is offering a $50 MSRP credit discount on models that lack Automatic Engine Stop/Start, $50 on models lacking Active Fuel Management/Dynamic Fuel Management, $100 on models that lack heated rear seats, and $20 on models that lack a Climate Control Knob Digital Temperature Display.
