THE CHEVY SPARK ADVANTAGE

If you’re thinking about getting a small car, then you may be comparing the 2017 Chevy Spark and the 2017 FIAT 500. Both of these cars provide fuel efficiency in a super fun package designed for zipping around crowded city streets.

However, when it comes to price, the Spark is certainly the better choice. In fact, the Chevy Spark has won both the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own Car and the Kelley Blue Book 10 Most Affordable Car awards for 2017.

THE EXTERIOR

With its unique front and rear fascia, roof rails and rocker panel and fender trim, the Spark will turn heads when you’re cruising around the city on its unique 15-inch alloy wheels. There are also 10 fun exterior colors (like Mint and Splash) and three trim levels available, so you can build exactly the car you’re looking for.

Although the FIAT 500 features aerodynamic elements to minimize drag, the car still doesn’t drive as smoothly as the Spark does. Its fuel economy is also poor, especially when you consider the car’s size.

THE INTERIOR

The Spark’s interior features 11.1 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seats are folded up, which is great for its class. It also comes standard with a power sunroof, push-button start, and a six-speaker audio system to make driving more enjoyable.

In contrast, one of the most common complaints about the FIAT is that its interior is regrettably small. The rear-seat space is very limited, and the car only offers 9.5 cubic feet of cargo space when the rear seatbacks are up.

THE TECHNOLOGY

The Spark offers a great array of technology, starting with the Chevy MyLink infotainment system that features a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity and Apple CarPlay capabilities. The Spark’s 4G LTE also comes with a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot to keep you connected on the road.

The FIAT 500 comes with a great infotainment system as well, but its touchscreen is only 5 inches wide. Additionally, the system only comes with one app embedded and its LCD instrument panel controls can be complex to use.

SAFETY FIRST

The Spark comes standard with many coveted safety features like available rear park assist, brake assist, and blind spot monitoring. It is equipped with 10 airbags, while the FIAT only has seven. The Spark also boasts a better J.D. Power Reliability rating than the FIAT

While the FIAT does offer some valuable safety features, it’s missing essential ones like lane keep assist and front collision warning. It also does not offer a backup camera like the Spark does, which is often a deal breaker for many of today’s drivers.
