WHAT’S NEW IN 2018?
The Trax received some serious attention from Chevrolet in the last year. Color options have been reconsidered, and three new exterior shades replace three from the 2017 model year. The Driver Confidence Package is now standard on premium models. Chevy even added a special Redline Edition Package to give drivers the choice of a bold and sporty style.
Less has changed for the Renegade, as Jeep seems content to rest on previous accomplishments. There is an option for a new sunroof with two panes, though. At least that’s something.

As exterior dimensions go, these two vehicles have much in common. They’re within inches of each other when it comes to height, length, ground clearance, and wheelbase. The finer details see a little bit more difference.

The similar exterior dimensions give Chevrolet and Jeep a nearly identical amount of room to work with on the inside of these two great vehicles. Smart design on Chevy’s part helps them to come away with more second row legroom than their competitor. While Jeep’s back seat is perfectly suitable for children, four adults will be much more comfortable in the Trax.
Chevy’s interior is also more versatile, which makes the space seem bigger than it actually is. Jeeps interior is definitely user friendly, but it feels just a little too cramped to be truly comfortable.

The Renegade had not been crash tested by the time The Car Connection published their report, but it’s hard to imagine any vehicle earning ratings as great as the Chevy Trax. Chevrolet’s small SUV is awarded five out of five stars in every single category except one, where it received four out of five stars.
