Chevrolet’s Ultimate Off-Road Truck Sold Out For 2019
You snooze you lose (until next year).
During our own experience behind the wheel of a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, we also became smitten with the bow tie brand’s off-road focused mid-size pickup truck. It’s not exactly cheap but it sure is ridiculously good fun. So we weren’t at all surprised when Chevy launched the ZR2 Bison, an even more extreme version of an already hardcore off-roader.

According to GM Authority, Chevrolet truck marketing director Sandor Piszar admitted that the $48,000 2019 model year allocation of 2,000 ZR2 Bison trucks are sold out. Fortunately, 2020 is a new model year and Chevy is expecting strong demand once again. Piszar did not state specifically whether Chevy and its ZR2 Bison components partner, American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), will build more trucks for the current model year to satisfy the expected high demand.
We have reached out to Chevrolet for comment about this and we’ll provide an update if we receive a response. The 2019 Colorado ZR2 Bison only went on sale late last year and given how fast all examples were reportedly sold, Chevy would be wise to increase output for 2020. The "regular” Colorado ZR2 itself continues to be a solid seller.
Also according to Piszar, it currently makes up about 10 percent of total Colorado sales, a particularly impressive figure given the ZR2 is somewhat more niche. What Piszar could not comment on, however, was whether Chevy and AEV will collaborate for future vehicles, stating that there’s "nothing to announce at this time.”
Given the strong sales of the Colorado ZR2 Bison so far, we wouldn’t be surprised if Chevy and AEV join forces for additional models in the future. The truck and SUV segments are currently stronger than ever, and we happen to think a competitor to the Ford F-150 Raptor by way of a Silverado meets the AEV treatment would be a great addition to the Chevy fleet.
