2016 Chevrolet Malibu vs. 2016 Honda Accord, 2016 Mazda 6 & 2016 Toyota Camry

Valley Chevy - 2016 Chevrolet Malibu No matter what segment of the automotive world you look at, there are always some heavy hitters that year over year are the perennial best-of-class. One of those segments, the mid-sized sedan class, is getting their apple cart upset a bit in 2016, as the Chevy Malibu makes waves in a class typically dominated by the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Mazda 6.

The 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

The Malibu is making a big splash this year, with a complete redesign that quite possibly blows the doors off the standard-bearing Accord and Camry. The redesign has brought a silky smoothness to the Malibu, with a proportionally beautiful body. The interior really shines as well, with a spacious back seat. The bells and whistles are also just where they should be. All four windows feature auto-down, umbrellas can be kept well at hand in the door cubbies, and the telescoping steering wheel adjusts to any driver’s needs.

Malibu Specs & Details

Under the hood, Chevy's mid-sized entry sports a 1.5L turbo standard, whereas others in the class simply throw a 2.5L four-cylinder. The engine is tied to a six-speed automatic, which is standard for the class. Only the Honda Accord Sport breaks from the herd, with a CVT. Even with a turbocharged engine, the Malibu also manages to come in with the quietest cabin of any entrant in the category. For gas mileage, the Malibu’s EPA-estimated 32 miles per gallon is tops in the mid-sized division. The undercarriage of the Malibu has been adjusted as well, with a better-handling chassis that corners with exuberance. It is clear that Chevy's engineers spent quite a bit of time under the car, as the whole ride is improved over past iterations. The old 19-inch rims that the car sported in previous years are also gone, substituted for 17-inchers that not only fit better with the overall aesthetic, but provide a better ride.
